Fundraising for Trip to Tanzania to volunteer with Homeopathy for Health in Africa

I'm Departing for Kilimanjaro Region of Tanzania near Moshi on Jan 20, 2011 to volunteer for 2 months with a Homeopathy for Health in Africa ( HHA), part of Homeopaths Without Borders. Our mission is to treat AIDS patients
with Constitutional Homeopathy. HHA was founded by Jeremy and Camilla Sherr, who have moved to Tanzania to live their vision. ( see below)
Lots to do in a short time: I'm applying for a Visa, gathering lists and piles of gear,  reading up on the local creatures..lions and tigers, no bears- but Dendroaspis and other Slitherins to be avoided, and then preparing for Mt Kilimanjaro! I have started a daily significant fitness routine to get into shape to see the view from the top of Kili.
What follows is the fundraising letter with information about HHA and how folks can make a donation!

Dear Friends, Clients, and Colleagues,

As most of you know I am continually searching for ways to answer my calling to serve the underserved, and I have decided to volunteer as a homeopath for Homeopathy for Health In Africa (HHA), a nonprofit organization that treats AIDS patients in the Kilimanjaro region of northern Tanzania. Homeopathy for Health in Africa is affiliated with Homeopaths Without Borders.
I am writing to ask for your financial support in making a two-month trip to volunteer for this outstanding cause. There are many nonprofits deserving of our help, relatively few directly improve the health and longevity of people with little means to do so themselves.
I am inspired to do this work now by the untimely passing of homeopathic software innovator and visionary colleague, David Kent Warkentin. David was tireless in his dedication to the homeopathic profession. He is most known for putting in to electronic searchable format both the oldest classics of homeopathic literature and the latest writings. Through ReferenceWorks and MacRepertory software he launched homeopathy into its rightful place in the forefront of healing modalities today. As an avid outdoors person and river guide David exemplified balancing doing meaningful work in the world with being in the beauty of the nature. I plan to place a prayer flag in his honor on Kilimanjaro.
Homeopathy for Health in Africa was founded in 2008 by Jeremy and Camilla Sherr, who uprooted their lives and moved with their young children to Tanzania with the mission to relieve the suffering of as many HIV/AIDS patients as possible using classical homeopathy, and to research, document, and teach the role homeopathy can play in treating AIDS. Jeremy’s work is widely recognized; his expertise as founder of the longest running school of homeopathy in the world as well as his clinical results place him in a unique position to develop a homeopathic treatment model for AIDS. Homeopathy for Health in Africa is doing cutting edge work to effectively treat AIDS with homeopathy by offering care to people with great need and no financial means.
HHA now has eight clinics in Tanzania, local sustainable food growing and education programs, and mentorship opportunity for homeopaths world wide to learn and take to other parts of the world this model for treating AIDS with homeopathy. I have chosen this program to serve the underserved and learn from renowned homeopaths.
I am seeking funds both to make my own trip possible and to support this all-volunteer organization.

To make a tax deductable donation in any amount, please write checks to

I am fortunate and grateful to have excellent coverage for my chiropractic practice during the time I am away by Dr. Rachel Strait, DC. She will be seeing clients on Tuesdays and Thursdays at my office from late January through mid-March, 2011. Friend and colleague Lindy Grigel will be providing coverage for my homeopathic clients at her office in Falmouth, FalRiver Health Center.

Thank you for your support, and wishing you peace this holiday season,

          Wendy Pollock DC, CCH

The Mission of Homeopathy for Health in Africa:
1) To relieve the suffering of as many HIV/AIDS patients as possible using classical homeopathy.
2) To develop a homeopathic understanding of the disease and identify those homoeopathic remedies that are most successful in treating HIV/AIDS.
3) To spread this knowledge throughout Tanzania and Africa, teaching local health practitioners to run sustainable services prescribing homeopathically for large masses of people.
4) To produce formal and ethical research on the treatment of HIV/AIDS with homeopathy and to demonstrate what it is able to achieve.
5) To help local communities with sustainable nutrition, garden projects and education.

About AIDS
AIDS is devastating Africa. Estimates are that somewhere between 24 and 30 million Africans are infected with HIV and 1.5 to 2 million die of AIDS each year. The disease has left an estimated 14 million children orphaned. This problem is not confined to the African continent; AIDS is one of the worst pandemics the world has ever seen.
Homeopathy and AIDS
In many ways homoeopathy is the perfect medicine for persons suffering from HIV/AIDS. AIDS means Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome. Homoeopathy works by stimulating and enhancing the immune system and therefore it is precisely in this disease that homoeopathy can be most effective.

The HHA Vision:
HHA believes that it is possible to make a substantial difference in the AIDS epidemic in Africa, by relieving suffering and restoring health through homoeopathy. Homeopaths believe that there is no disease or situation that does not have an inherent solution. HHA knows that homoeopathic medicine can bring about real change; the results that are witnessed daily substantiate this belief. Homoeopathy is one of the most effective systems of medicine known to man and is the most widely used alternative medicine in the world, practiced by hundreds of thousands of doctors and professionals (world wide), supported by governments and over 400 million homeopathic patients world wide. Homoeopathy has a huge body of literature, substantial positive research and an excellent track record.
There are several successful homoeopathic projects in Africa. Sadly, there is little funding for research and clinics for any system of medicine other than conventional, so that individual homoeopaths must bear the cost and assume a personal financial responsibility. Yet wherever they go, they perform daily miracles.

Collaboration:
HHA has partnered with two local NGO’s: TREDO, Tanzania Rural Education and Development Organization, and KACA, Kilimanjaro AIDS Control Centre. They are very impressed with HHA’s results and supply the HHA clinics with an endless stream of patients.

On the ground in Tanzania: HHA AIDS Case:
“One of the most dramatic cases we have had this month is a woman who came in treatment failure. This is a medical term, which means that the Anti Retro Viral medicines (ARVs) have stopped working, and unless another line of ARVs is successful, she is likely to die. In a period of a few months her weight has declined from 63kg to 43kg, and her CD4 has reduced from 500 (in September 2009) to 300 in January 2010. The ARVs have been changed four times, and each time she is growing weaker. This indicates treatment failure, which is usually a terminal situation. Her husband passed away in 1993 from AIDS. She has been infected since and on ARVs since 2007. She has 3 children.
Her main problem is menstrual periods; she bleeds heavily, and hardly has a break in between the periods. They come three times in a month. This has continued for 2 years. She is very weak. She likes to be happy; She is very animated and has a lightness about her, which seems strange in this situation. Her legs are numb and she can’t move her fingers well, worse for cold. Her skin has pale patches. She has no appetite, but she likes spicy foods.
Rx : Homoeopathic prescription given.
On follow up 4 weeks later:
Immediately after the remedy she got her appetite back. Her weight has increased from 43kg to 55 kg in 4 weeks! Her CD4 is now 374: up 74 points.
The bleeding stopped and her periods are now normal (this was confirmed 2 months later; once a month with no clots, regular blood flow and no pains). Herpes zoster-pain is gone. She didn’t mention it but it turns out her mouth and tongue were full of ulcers, which after the remedy have totally disappeared. She continues to do extremely well. She has gone back to work and all her relatives and friends want to know what she is taking!”
Rx: Continue remedy.
